One adult oyster can filter 50 gallons of water a day, and lives 20 years on average. This means that your oysters will filter up to 365,000,000 gallons of water in Bellport Bay during their lifetime. Oysters are also a keystone species, meaning other species and entire ecosystems depend upon them for survival. They provide crucial habitat for thousands of marine animals and establish a strong foundation for a healthy bay.
